"Okay but very basic"

Friendly staff but standards of the room differ greatly from one another. We stayed there at the start and end of the holiday (which required passing through Paris) and the first time, the rooms (especialy the bathrooms) were much nicer than the 2nd time around. Also, I wouldn`t bother paying the extra for the breakfast as it`s so basic - you`ll get more at McDonald`s for less. However - as I said, staff was good and, while some of the furnishings, carpets etc were on the tatty side at times, the place was spotless! Can`t ask much more than that for a cheap hotel in central Paris.

"We didn`t have a safe in our room and I did last time. "

I don`t know if the television worked as there was no remote control. It would be nice to have tea making facilities in the room. Very good location. It would be nice to have a choice of juice for breakfast.

"Comfortable,basic and friendly."

People at the hotel were friendly, never fussy, but helpful, especially when we needed assistance with lost baggage at the airport.

"A great base for all the sites in Paris, 10 minute walk from a metro station, very clean!"

Great hotel, very basic ammenities, but the shower worked, beds were very comfortable and changed every day. the hotel was a 10 minute walk from a metro station Poissonaire, nice surroundings a few nice restaurants and bars close by. Overall all you need for a 3 day break in Paris!!!!

"Aviod if possible"

Hotel needs a complete make over. Decor in bedrooms was very shabby, blanket and bed covers needed changed. The ensuite neeeded an over haul - the bath panel was broken, when you turned the water on in the hand basin water came up through the bath plug hole, The redeming factors - clean sheets and towels were supplied each day. Breakfast comprised of bread, (2 pieces per person) cheese, butter, jam, tea and coffee. The hotel was rated at 2 star - - don`t believe it was near that standard but then again it was Paris and was a budget hotel. Would not stay in it again.

"Convenient, cheap (for Paris) and cheerful."

We moved on to join friends who had pre-booked a further two nights. To say that the new venue was all style over substance would be an understatement. All aspects were not as effieciently organised as those at the Caravelle.

"Noise was the only problem"

Noise problems were:-The street was very narrow and car horn blowing and motorbike revving, also thin wall between room 203 (ours) and room 204 (noisy, shouting Germans until gone 0100hrs).Otherwise the hotel was OK for a 2 star.

"Not great for families"

The location was very convenient and we could walk to many attractions. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was clean but obviously due for refurbishment, especially the bathroom eg the ventilation was not working properly. Walls are paper thin but the hotel is quiet at night. We found the room too cramped (and very hot) for a family of four, with two small double beds making for very uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, with each parent having to sleep with a child. I wouldn`t recommend this for families but otherwise a reasonable budget stay near the centre of the city.

"Nice Hotel Nice Rooms Helpful Staff"

As I said nice hotel nice rooms and helpful staff. One of the Gentlemen on night reception was very helpful. He got us a map of Paris and marked out the places that we wanted to go. Also he phoned and got us a mini cab to the Airport a few euros more but it took us right were we wanted to go. So a big THANK YOU to the Gentleman. And it was a nice visit allround.

"You get what you pay for."

This hotel is simple, no frills. Request a room on the 1st floor so that you can take the stairs as the lift is slow and literally can only fit 2 people at a time. Breakfast is just a crossaint, baguette, tea/coffee & organge juice. The walls are very thin but the street is quiet at night. Rooms are clean.

"Beware the chamber maid on the fourth floor"

My sister-in-law and I went to Paris for the weekend and had booked a twin room at this hotel. No problems with any aspect of the hotel, all clean and entirely functional. However it was rather cold in our room as it was only 2 degrees outside, we decided to take the covers off the third bed in the room to provide some warmth, the next morning after breakfast the demon chambermaid grabbed my arm and demanded to know why we had removed the covers; not only had she had to remake the bed but she hung up all my clothes, put my jewellery away and packed my boots for me! After plenty of French remonstrating, arms and mouth working in unison, she left the room promising to check the place out the next morning! So beware the chamber maid, keep your room tidy, and don`t sleep in the beds!!

"Only a 2* hotel, so what can you expect? However, staff a bit surly & rooms and bedding shabby. "

Slight mix-up of room types allocated, so had to negotiate at length for what we had booked. The bathrooms that had been renovated were good, but 2 of our bathrooms were in desperate need of renovation and smelt of mildew because the extractor fans didn`t work. Broken furniture in one room. Bedspreads so old they were in shreds. If you just want somewhere cheap to put your head down, it`s OK, but you wouldn`t want to spend any time here!

"Basic but good"

The hotel had an excellent location for it`s price; near the metro and RER with quick links to central Paris and the CDG airport. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was basic but comfortable and included a safe. Although the decor was dated and could have done with updating. The breakfast again was basic but sufficient. Overall I was impressed for the 4 nights we stayed and we had no problems.

"Family of five staying for two nights"

Easy access to all the sights either walking or by Metro. Basic accommodation, clean and tidy. Plain breakfast, just bread, jam and coffee but decent enough. If driving park at the nearby Rex Atrium car park. When you check out ask reception to give you a voucher for discounted rates (e.g. ?32 for 2 days instead of ?60). Would use this hotel again.

"lack of bath not made clear"

even though i booked many months in advance... a month or two before others in my party... i found i was inconvienienced by being placed on the fith floor.. bath room door would not close... extractor fan in bathroom not working... NO indidiction there was no bath... only a minute awkward shower... my colleagues who booked later had baths... no sense of urgency to fix the fith floor power outage... I was told to fix it myself... I reset the microswitches... otherwise room was clean.. breakfast fresh... overall a pleasant stay

"We had a great time."

The hotel is clean, the staff are helpful and pleasant, breakfast is basic, coffee not so good. This is an inexpensive hotel and doesn`t pretend to be other than that. It`s fine. The nearest metro ( Bonne Nouvelle) is about 600 m away and is actually a block or two distant from where it is positiioned on most of the very useful giveaway maps. The no. 48 bus is frequent and only about 200 m from the hotel turn right when leaving. Nice bar two doors away with a live music cellar. The hotel is quiet at night.

"In need of a lick of paint"

The bed was uncomfortable and the one pillow (on a double bed) was rubbish. The hotel probably hasn`t been redecorated since the eighties. The area`s not too nice (prostitutes congregate around the corner on Rue de Saint Denis)There`s a 1am curfew so no chance for late drinking/clubbing.Having said that, the staff were welcoming and friendly and if they refurbished, I`d be back. Going in the opposite direction from Rue de St Denis there were some really nice restaurants (5 mins walk) and the area gets better.

"Great Value for money "

The decor is slightly dated (but it looks like it is being refurbished) and the lift is the smallest lift we have ever seen BUT we were given a room with a perfect view of the Sacre Coeur. The breakfast was simple but nice. The only comment we would make would be regarding the shower - not much pressue and no hot water in the evenings. Apart from that it was great value for money and exactly what we were looking for in the heart of Paris Thank you very much Maria

"Clean but tired"

As two weeks ago hotel is under refurbishment which does not seem to have progressed much! On 4th floor, rather than 1st, this time and new work is coming from bottom up! Again, hairdryer in bathroom working but head broken from body! Good stop if only want cheap bed for a couple of nights close to Gare de Nord

"Basic accommodation but good if all you want is a place to sleep - expect nothing more."

"Obviously undergoing renovation, rooms basic, bathrooms basic, staff friendly"

Good location although street filthy! Rooms clean and functional but bathroom in 101, although under refurbishment, had old, broken hairdryer (hot air hose decayed!). Fine for our purpose as only slept there and access from the A1 autoroute excellent. Perhaps not longer than a two night stay... The refurbishment is not of a high standard at the moment. Going back in two weeks so will be interesting to see if any different!!!

"perfect for a city break"

A basic hotel but perfect for those who want to see the sites of paris and just need a place to sleep. A brilliant location, just ten mins walk from the opera and two minutes away from metro stations. Service was brilliant, and the staff were very keen to help us with directions, and showing us the fastest and cheapest way around Paris. All in all very impressed.
