Getting there:
Most visitors to the city arrive by plane into El Prat airport. This is the main airport for Barcelona and is served by most of the worlds airlines plus many `lo-cost` airlines from all over Europe. Hotel Direct recommend you fly to this airport especially if you are on a short visit.
Getting around:
Metro Barcelona,The stations are marked by a red diamond with the letter M in the centre. The stations are generally clean and safe to use but exercise caution at night. Direction is indicated by the station at the end of the line and it covers most but not all of the city. The City also has an excellent tourist bus service (Bus Turistic) that calls at all the major tourist attractions
Tipping:
10-15% is normal in cabs and restaurants (where a service charge is usually included in your bill).

Cathedral

In the center of the Barri Gòtic (Gothic district), the heart of Barcelona, is the gothic cathedral, known as La Seu. The cathedral is officially named Cathedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulalia, after Barcelona`s patron saint Eulalia. Adjacent to the cathedral is a 14th century cloister. There are always 13 geese in its central courtyard. Each goose represents one year in the life of the martyr Santa Eulalia, a young girl tortured to death in the 4th century by the Romans for her religion. The cloister also contains a small museum with liturgist artifacts.

The Miro foundation was set up by Joan Miro in 1971 & is devoted to the study of his works & the promotion of contemporary art. Highlights of the gallery include some of his earliest sketches, the tapestry Tapis de la Fundacio & a set of black & white lithographs entitled, Barcelona Series, an artistic appraisal of the war years. The gallery pays homage to one of Catalonias greatest artists, Famous for his vibrant style & use of childlike colours.

Antoni Gaudi started work on La Sagrada Familia In 1882 & dedicated the later part of his life to his vision of Europes biggest Cathedral, After his death in 1926 the fate of the unfinished building has been subject to debate, with an estimated further 80 years of work, It seems the Sagrada Familia will never be more than a shell. But even as it stands today it has become the symbol of Barcelona & one of the architectural wonders of the world, A must on any visitors itinerary.
