Decor-very stylish, breakfast-buffet with amazing choice, service-very attentive and professional, drinks-expensive, our room (306) looked out over deep chasm -at the bottom of which was the kitchen and hence the smells and noise, ideally situated on La Ramba-right in the centre of Barcelona, pool and sunbathing area on roof fantastic. Could easily pass as a 5 star.

Staying at this hotel really made our holiday special. The food was beautiful, the facilities very good and the staff were friendly and efficient. I woulld recommend this hotel to anybody. It was so stylish and always beautifully clean. We will definitely go back.

Right on the Ramblas the hotel was very enjoyable. Exc ellent service, pool and spa facilities clean and enjoyable, rooftop scene was pretty cooland charlie chaplin movies in lobby. highly recomended

This is a lovely hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are great and the location is perfect. The best thing about the hotel is the rooftop pool and bar - for cooling off in the day and drinking cocktails at night :o) the only downside was the lack of sunbeds - otherwise I couldn`t fault it.

Great hotel, with spa and roof top pool with terrace bar, the perfect place to relax. Its location was excellent and made it easy to get to all places in the city. The hotel is beautifully decorated throughout, both public areas and rooms, the staff were always helpful and polite.

Right slam in the middle of La Ramblas you will have to go a long way to beat this hotel. A Grand Dame fully loaded with polished marble, air-con that works and flat screen tv`s. There is a pool on the top and bottom floors and the morning buffet extensive. Seriously, go to this hotel has it all.

We had a fab 4 days in Barcelona ( a long hen party weekend). This hotel was the perfect start to it, really impressive from the moment you walked into the lobby. The rooms were a good size, very smart decor and clean. luxury bathrooms. Great service too! In fact, having stayed in numerous hotels all over the world I would say that this was one of the best. The only negative point I would say however is the price of the drinks in the hotel....mega ( gin & tonic £9). It was in a great location for restaurants, the marina, beaches a short taxi ride away,( most of the nightlife is here) lots to do, shopping galore! really cheap for good quality. We would definately stay there again.(PS. you gave us a great price for this hotel.)

The room,a standard double,was very roomy and excellent in every way.The staff were helpful and pleasant.The service and standards of cleanliness were first class.The roof top pool with its gorgeous sun loungers and breath taking views over Barcelona was super,likewise the basement spa with its atmospheric pool was fabulous.The location was faultless.I didnt want to leave!The trip was a 40th Birthday treat for my husband I was so glad to have chosen this hotel- every holiday we have ever been on my husband has demanded to change rooms because they have been unsatisfactory,he is not easily pleased-however everything exceeded our expectation .We would love to visit again.

From the moment we arrived the hospitality shown by the staff at the Hotel was of a very high standard. The staff were extremely helpful. The hotel was impeccably clean , the food was wonderful & service we received was of a very high standard. I would certainly use this Hotel again & strongly recommend it to family & friends

Hotel 1898 is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in - and I have been in many!! Credit must be given to management for their excellent staff. In particular the reception staff who were very helpful and attentive. Breakfast excellent choice - spa excellent - superb cleanliness . Thank you - will certainly stay in Hotel 1898 again.

Stayed at 1898 from 25th-27th May 2007. Exceeelent rooftop lounging area with pool makes for a very relaxing afternoon rest. also good pool and sauna etc. on ground floor. Clean, well fitted out room with air con, flat screen tv and a huge bed. Wide range of food at breakfast. Bar on the roof a little pricey but great lplace to chill out, overall well worth it and would recommend this hotel.Hope to return.

Great location, excellent service, good atmosphere and well appointed room. All the "must see" attractions in Barcelona are within walking distance of the 1898. Roof top pool and bar area is perfect for relaxation. Overall the service was excellent and would most definitely stay there again.

Only suggestions would be: 1. Air conditioning control in the wardrobe is difficult to see. Would be useful having a light. 2. Better if the shower head could also be fixed to the wall when showering. Apart from this everything was execellent.

No customer service with a smile and they almost appeared put out!! Ashame as a really beautiful hotel but staff could have been so much better.....

Very good Hotel with impressive entrance lobby. Excellent breakfast, we managed to get a B&B rate with Hotel Direct which made the stay very good value for money. Standard rooms are a bit small and look into the inner quadrangle, however they are very quiet and adequate for a short stay. Central position, ideal for sightseeing. The reception staff were very helpful and advised us of an excellent Tapas Bar just off Placa Catalunya.The rooftop pool is very small, but good enough for a splash around, whereas the bar area, with its sofas and cushions, is very luxurious and gives panoramic views of the area. The bar prices are a little steep, but average for this class of hotel and generally, the service is very good. Overall a very good Hotel and well worth recommending.

Hotel has good facilities (including small indoor and outdoor pools), but service can be variable at times and for the same price, other (5 star) hotels in Barcelona may offer better value. However, we generally had no complaints - it is a reasonable hotel in a good location, but it is by no means exceptional (as other reviews might suggest).

Had a great stay very central, breakfast great, hotel has got to be the best in Barcelona would go back if returned to Barcelona recommend to any one. Staff very helpfull . Only complaint cleaners just came in room all different times without knocking which was a bit annoying but sure it can be resolved.

The location was ideal for seeing the city. The hotel was quite contemporary and the rooms were beautiful and clean. The service was very good. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. I would certainly reccomend this hotel and stay there when I visit Barcelona.

I would certainly recommend this hotel. The location is superb - on the Rambla and close to Placa catalunya. Although close to the `action` the hotel is quiet with a calming atmosphere. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was also very impressive.

Arrived late last sunday night (1/4/07) Check-in was painless, and up to the room in a flash. I`d asked for a nice room as we were celebrating my girlfriends birthday & we werent disappointed. Good size room, with everything you need. Bathroom was lovely (can`t get over the huge shower head!) Being located right on Las Ramblas it was a perfect spot to start exploring the city. Choice of two metro stations on the doorstep, and lots of bus links also. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Would have like to have stayed longer than a few days!!

Amazing boutique/art deco hotel in the heart of Barcelona. If you can afford to squeeze the euro`s slightly this is well worth it. The only issue is the noise from the nightclub if you are at second floor level. Leisure facilities are perfect and they bar is stylish and timeless. Best hotel I have ever stayed in.

Reception friendly and helpful (but not very knowledgeable on restaurants). Ask for a room at the back as the Ramblas gets noisy at weekends. All creature comforts you would need except no in-house movies. We stayed in a superior room on the 6th floor and were delighted. Would defintiely stay there again and would recommend it to all our friends and family.
