corridor and stairwell areas very tired looking, rooms cleand and tidy but no shoe shine available.
Enjoyable visit and very good value for money. Service was excellent.
Enjoyed our stay in the main. Room allocated was very well equipped and comfortable but located very near staff rooms and this meant lots of comings and goings late at night in the corridor outside. We eat in the main dining room one evening which is in the adjoining bar and food facility known as `Tempus.` We enjoyed a quiet drink there on the first night with very pleasant service but on the second evening ourselves and other guests, mainly of our age, were assailed with loud, booming music which was clearly only for the benefit of the young female staff behind the bar. There was no escaping this cacophony of heavy, bass driven and non-stop beat which made conversation almost impossible and continued after eleven pm. Not waht you`d expect in this type of establishment. We won`t be coming back because after a day at the festival you want to talk not shout to be heard.
A lovely hotel, friendly staff and a ridiculously comfortable bed. The only quibble I have is the breakfast, thought it was very poor for the quality of hotel.
Only real disappointment was that there was no air conditioning in the bedroom. We left the windows open all day to minimise the build up of heat but had to close them at night due to outside noise. Our break was in May and the weather wasn`t at all warm outside.I would therefore definitely not return during the hot Summer months knowing that the rooms would be so uncomfortable due to the lack of AC.The rest of the hotel had AC so why couldn`t they extend that to the bedrooms? The hotel itself is a lovely hotel and the staff were very attentive. It is ideally situated for accessibility to the tourist sights and amenities of the city.
We had a lovely time at the George the room was very clean and fresh and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate at the Tempus restaurant where the meal was delicious. We would definately come back.
Reception staff courteous and efficienct. Dinner was excellent - all three courses were very good and service was very efficient too. Tempus dining room has a good atmophere. Room a bit on the small side and quite cold when I entered, but furnishings are all fine and bed very comfortable. Shower could do with more power and some form of shelf above the sink would be helpful to put razor etc onto. Radio 4 on TV isn`t actually Radio 4. Didn`t receive ordered newspaper in mornng. However, only material comment is lack of WiFi in room, which needs to be addressed.
On this occassion I visited with my husband for our wedding anniversary I had told him about the environment for breakfast so I must admit I was really dissapointed when we were shown to the "overflow" area
We were switched to The George at the last minute and we will be back. Thanks.
Unable to get to hotel. Lost all monies for Hotel + flights Regards Roy Jeynes
I used to pass the George as a little girl growing up in Edinburgh. I loved it then and do more so now. It has maintained its classic standards but also moved forward with the times. A lovely experience. I will be back.
down road with police cars chasing at full speed, wood have to think about going back.
Reception area is welcoming, but our twin room was very small - even though we had been upgraded to an executive package(?). Staff not overly friendly.
This hotel was fantastic, excellent location, lovely comfortable, clean room and good food in the restaurant with a lively atmosphere in the bar, would definitely recommend and would certainly return.
Not the best value for money, but accept you are paying mainly for the location, which is perfect! Bar area excellent, but don`t book the front rooms if you want to sleep before 3am, as the double glazed windows have annoying vents fitted which eliminates any soundproofing at all so you hear all of the street noise below. No doubt another "health and safety" issue! Not a major problem for one night, but probally would have asked for another room if staying longer. Breakfast very good and staff very obliging and helpful.
hotel was lovely but very expensive bar !!! It would have got excellent if not for this !!
When we stay in edinburgh we always try to stay at this hotelAs we are extremely fussy this hotel is perfect.location,food,drink.Everything is the best.
The only complaint I could say was the poor shower, the low water pressure and standing in a slippery bath. The actual bathroom was lovely.
Certainly one of the best hotels in Edinburgh with a location second to none! Beautiful rooms, great food and a wonderful service by all of teh staff. We`ll certainly be staying again. Also, one of the cleanest hotels I`ve stayed in, and I`ve stayed in quite a few! See you soon!
Great hotel, good staff, lovely rooms, big beds, although I`d rather have a double than 2 singles pushed together. Great all round stay.
Very pleasant stay hotel reception and rooms lovely. Staff very helpful, and a great location to be in Edinburgh.
Room was a bit on the small side for the money we were paying - and lifts were incredibly slow. Also noisey during the night, but hey, this is Edinburgh! Staff very obliging and helpful. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay - thank you!
bed very hard so had a poor night
excellent hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
I would stay at the hotel for the accomodation, however, breakfast was abysml. Not enough tables & waiting staff, self service hot buffet was lukewarm, tea, coffee and toast took forever to arrive. To cap it all a fire alarm had us out on the street for 10 minutes. Staff were obviously trying to do their best, however, were outnumbered. I would reccommend that in futue the hotel have sufficient staff to cover peak times in the restaurant.
Excellent location lovely clean hotel we stayed in room 248 which seemed to be had a recent refit. Room was clean ,spacious, quiet ,top class, my wife thought the pillows were lumpy but I had no problem The breakfast was very nice a wide drange of choice to please all nationalities,in a lovely dining area definitely would book again
A perfect place to stay - very central to all attractions - spacious rooms and food in hotel top quality - staff are all very friendly and approachable.Everything you would need to have a perfect stay in Edinburgh. It`s also opposite Hard Rock Cafe another benefit.
The Restaurant service in the morning was poor, no spoons with tea cups, no glasses for fruit juice, food cold and had to queue to be seated.
