"very pleasant overnight stay"

The hotel was beautiful and had everything that we could have wanted from the views to the fitness centre. Sorry we didnt stay another night .....the staff were courteous, warm and welcoming, they also held conversations with all guests seen to everyones needs quietly and efficiently with no fuss. The food was lovely and fresh made with a reasonable price tag. the room was comfortable, clean and fresh. we will definatley be staying here again in the future one of the best hotels in the area.

"Smart, newly refurbished hotel"

Although some distance from the centre of Edinburgh, this hotel is not too inconveniently located. We were the first guests into a newly refurbished room, which was excellent in all respects, except for the fact that the heating was not working. It actually did not bother us and we reported it at check out. Breakfast was good value at the specially reduced rate of £7.50, but we would have been unwilling to pay the "normal" rate of £15. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

"bedroom was really nice"

unfortunately the breakfast was not up to standard, the food was cold and the bread rolls appeared stale. not a lot of choice on the continental side either, no cheese or meat left by 9.30 when we arrived for breakfast.

"Very friendly and helpful staff, rooms very clean and everything was catered for extremely well."

Excellent food. Maybe would have liked bar snacks to stay open a bit later. Leisure facilities excellent. Would definitely recommend to families and it is suitable for people of all ages . Bus routes very handy to get into Edinburgh City Centre.

"2nd year running we have stayed there, felt a little rundown this time"

Breakfast very dull and food and drink overly expensive. Staff friendly and good in bar, less interested in customer service in the restaurant though. Room good, especially large bed - but a little dowdy.

"We felt the room could be modernized. It`s getting a little tired looking."

We also thought that the room could use more ventilation or a fan to help circulate the air around. The children loved the pool and we enjoyed the bar in the evening.

"Staff wonderful."

Must be the only hotel left in Scotland with all-native staff (at least British if not all Scottish)! But was quite tickled after reading the bedroom folder bumph about the hotel sourcing its supplies as locally as possible . . . . to find the complimentary biscuits came from Belgium and at breakfast the marmalade was from England and butter from Ireland. hmmm, could do better there!

"Excellent staff who are very helpfull"

Only reservation is that I would have liked the option of a snack/bar meal in the evening. Some guests like myself chose the hotel because it has leisure facilities and do not always want a large sit down meal after attending these facilities

"very pleased with hotel"

very nice clean hotel with friendly staff and good food.Only downside is doors seem to bang alot and the walls are quite thin so noise could be a problem if you are a light sleeper.

Nice, clean family room with large flatscreen telly and settee. Reception staff welcoming and helpful. Ate in restaurant in the evening - good food, very good kids menu and once again staff were very helpful. Only problem was that the restaurant area was very hot even though it was the evening, and the windows did not open much to allow cool air in.

"A Gem of a Hotel tucked away from the City Centre"

Staying one night prior to running in the marathon with my good lady and two young daughters in tow. The Family room was very well laid out with all the usual items, kettle, tea coffee etc. Information pack very useful. Especially about the number 26 bus which stops outside the hotel and takes you direct into the city centre in 20 mins every 10 mins - £1.20 for a single or £3.00 for unlimited travel that day. That saves you £12-14 on a taxi. The restaurant is very nicely laid out with great views across the rolling countryside. This is a must Hotel for everyone staying in Edinburgh but want a quieter evening when you retire to bed.

"Room was very comfortable, but decor a little old. "

This is a good hotel although a fair distance from the city centre. Bus gets you there and cheaply. (£3.00 for an all day/any bus ticket). Service is every 10 minutes. The food was good although the breakfast plates were cold which made the food lose its heat. Otherwise very good value for money. Staff are very helpful.

"Good value, lovely breakfast, friendly staff"

The room was very spacious but the lack of towels (only one bathtowel!) was irritating, and noise insulation was poor. Fine for one night, but I think I`d be pretty tired if I stayed for a week!

"been to best western hotel in broughty ferry and didn`t think this was near so good. "

previous best western had 2 flat screen tv in family room so kids could watch telly seperate this one only had one tv which was just small and not wall mounted. Room was clean and tidy though.restaurant was a bit pricey for the food you got and service wasn`t always as friendly as it could have been. wouldn`t most probably visit there again to be fair.

"Friendly Hotel"

We went with our 2 children 4 and 8 years old. The family room was clean, but a little out of date. The hotel restaurant overlooked the river and with a lofty position provided a good view, The number 26 bus that staff guided us to gave easy access to Edinburgh. The restaurant was ok, the gym offered a multitude of activities and was of a good quality. Children were welcomed by staff, but as always a few old chronies who used the `local gym` were less child friendly. But then again where hotels offer facilities that can be bought into this is often the case.Staff were very helpful when our 4 year old daughter was poorly at 2 in the morning they provided accurate directions to a local Tesco (24 hrs).North of the river was easily accessed from the hotel location. We would advise not to try cutting across Edinburgh however, USE THE RING ROAD!.We had a nice stay although the room could have been a little more up to date.

"Great staff, good value, nice pool"

Stayed 2 nights. Room 185 was lovely with plenty of room for the 3 of us and nice bathroom. Very clean and modern. Robes, slippers and a bottle of wine was a really nice touch. Staff very friendly and helpful. Regular buses into Edinburgh from close to the hotel. Lots of parking and a leisure club with a nice pool. Hotel a little tired in parts - route to leisure club, dining room - but that didn`t spoil our stay at all. Would go back.

"bathroom needs a serious re vamp"

stayed in this hotel from 8th april for 2 nights. Found all staff very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was great with a wide choice of hot and cold food. Room service was fast with good quality food. The pool was warm and relaxing if not a little cloudy. The only problem we had was with the bathroom in our family room, there was a hole in the bath and the shower was very difficult to regulate. The toilet seat was loose and the bathroom seemed generally dated and very small. The wardrobe was very dusty and unclean but the room itself was large and clean. The radiators were permanently hot and way too hot over night. All in all it was a nice hotel with the odd blip!!

"Overall a nice hotel for the money."

We got a reasonable rate for the hotel at Easter weekend. Access to the pool, etc, was an added bonus. The evening meal we had in the restaurant was also pretty good, and staff were friendly and helpful. Our only quibble was the noise in our room, which was directly above reception, and which therefore picked up voices from downstairs at about 5am!
