The reception was excellent and most welcoming. The hotel was, as usual, most impressive. The room, although quite small had everything one could wish for and was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The concierge arranged a car for us to reach an evening appointment on time, for which I was most grateful. The breakfast, although quite expensive, and not included in the price, was ordinary but adequateand the arrangements in the dining room were well carried out by a very efficient staff. The staff took care of all our needs and although the Russell is a big hotel, there is a warm, friendly feeling about it and we were most comfortable. My wife and I have used the hotel over many years and I have happy memories of conferences and wonderful dinners in the dining room there. I would recommend the Russell to anyone either from home or abroad. For foreign travellers, a lovely English experience. Thank-you for your service, can`t wait for the next time. Kind regards, Arthur Wade
Very well presented facilities, amiable attentive staff, Grand public areas, would use again over other local hotels, I have used most whilst frequently visiting vacinity.
Decor a little jaded but facilities were clean
This was our second time to stay in the Russell and found our stay very comfortable and convenient for our use in London. I requested a rate for an extra night in the same room, as we would have liked to stay another night. I was quoted the same rate and was disappointed that there was not a reduction. From the hotel`s point of view there would not have been any extra work involved and potential income lost for a room night. We stayed elsewhere. There seemed no flexability in the computer for the your desk staff to offer any reduction. The hotel did not seem to be overly busey.
Refurbed rooms fine, no biscuits in rooms now, is this economising? Friday last, much noise from disco and DJ, made sleeping util 1am impossible. General staff friendly and helpful
All the staff were friendly and attentive. The room was good and bathroom excellent, pity about the view, as in no view!
Very disappointed with the level of service at reception. Despite arriving at 10 am on 13/11/10 and being told that due to a computer problem all twin room bookings had been lost - we were told that this would be sorted out. Came back after theatre at 8pm only to be told that there was still a problem. Shocking level of service from what I thought would be a great hotel. Very disappointing as this was a 40th birthday treat. Will never book with this hotel chain again. Free breakfast was appalling - buffet breakfast - scrambled eggs were disgusting and grilled (tinned) tomatoes arrived after we had finished our breakfast.
I was a bit disappointed in the Russell Hotel as I had expected it to be very grand. The public rooms are very nice and the main staircase is very grand, especially with the Christmas tree at the foot of it, but I felt the bedroom was a bit shabby and patched up looking. It was clean and comfortable though and the staff were friendly, so we did enjoy our stay and we probably will return.
unfortunately there was a very loud disc which echoed towards our room , the noise of the air conditioning units also kept us awake so we did not sleep well perhaps window shutter to block out more noise should be considered.
We really enjoyed our time at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean. The optional breakfast was worth opting for.
There was no complimentary water, not enough tea/coffee/milk. The lighting was was awful.I would not stay there again.
coffee expensive so decided against using the Bar.Very easy to get to all the places we wanted to go.had a Great time.
The Hotel Russell is a fantastic place to stay while in London. It is central to all the attractions and right beside Russell Tube station. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful.I highly recommend it to anyone visiting London.
Despite earlier positive experiences with this hotel, we had a very disappointing stay in October 2010. Most of the staff members were courteous and helpful - young Victoria at the reception desk and Alex in maintenance deserve particular praise. However, the room was less than satisfactory and the Front Office Manager was not helpful. There seems to be a strong focus on corporate accounts with the result that individual guests are given short shrift.
Hotel was nice, clean and the staff were very polite. we booked a double room which was a bit on the small side and the satellite tv was very limited to a few channels which was very inadequate. There was no mini bar in the room and was told to use water from the bathroom tap for tea and coffee considering theres a fridge in the rooms, they could supply bottled water for customers. Dont think we will be staying there again as not what we expected for the price and spent quite a bit on taxi fares to get to and from the west end.
Enjoyed our stay at the Russell. Have stayed before and will return. Only issue was decoration and fittings in the room ( 328 )were a bit tired and needed refurbishment not really up to 4 star
One feels that one is staying in one of London`s Historic Centres. A really imposing building. Staff are very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Public areas are impressive and all facilities are clean and tidy. My room had a very large and well appointed bathroom; lovely shower! The room itself was a bit dated and the TV signal wasn`t great and the TV itself needs upgrading. No international channels either. The location is perfect for The British Museum, Covent Garden, Theatre land and shopping. Overall I would stay again though the price wasn`t great. To be fair it was booked with only a week`s notice.
We booked the Hotel rooms a month in advance and requested that all 3 rooms be next to each other and asked if they could possibly do something special for my sister`s room as she had recently lost her husband in a Hotel fire in Kurdistan. Neither of these requests were met. The rooms hadn`t even been allocated when we arrived at the Hotel. Very dissapointing and will probably book directly with a Hotel next time we stay in London instead of using an agent
I was very happy with the friendliness and level of service of the staff in the hotel. However I booked a single room which I felt was very small size for the price!!
Rooms clean and well presentedFront desk staff v. helpful as too girl in charge of restaurant Food and drink very overpriced even for London service very slow
breakfast was too costly, walked 2 minutes up road and had full english for £4.50.
Stayed 5 nights. Room could be cleaner. Drinks cooler didn`t work and was very dirty at the back. Bathroom sink was ontop of toilet. Room was fairly quiet which was great given thetraffic outside. £2 per call even with a call card. Didn`t eat in the hotel - booked room only. No answer to calls to reception. Staff quitefriendly but not at checkout time, no native English-speaking staff encountered. Not a 4-starHotel in my opinion
We had only three days stay at the Russell but will continue to visit this hotel in our future visits to London. Highly impressed by both the courtesy and kindness shown by all the staff. Would cerainly recommend all to use the Hotel Rusell for a very comfortable stay in London.
the hotel is in an excellent location making it very easy to reach all parts of town. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room however, was disappointing. It was quite small and drab. The bathroom had a cracked backing to the shower, there were cracked tiles and the floor moved. There were stains on the carpet and one of the lights didn`t work in the bedroom. There was also a very poor stock of tea and coffee. I am not really aware of prices in central London for hotels but I thought that the room was very overpriced at £150 without breakfast. Really it seemed more like a B&B than a smart central London hotel. I had stayed in the hotel before and my room had been fabulous which was why I wanted to go back with my husband for his birthday. Evidently the rooms must vary enormously but I think you should be made aware of this when booking.
Quick and efficient reception on arrival. Upgraded to small suite on 7th floor without request. Very comfortable and modern room. Also very quiet. Bathroom needed a small amount of repair but overall an excellent suite.. Breakfast smooth and efficient service. Wide variety and well presented, tasty food.
Rooms comfortable and spoless but a little small. We had a problem with our room safe which was very speedily (within 5mins!) rectified. Breakfast tho plentiful was not particularly relaxing as the breakfast room was crowded. Why oh why cannot British hotels still manage decent coffee when there is a Starbucks or Cafe Nero on every other corner?
I have stayed at the Russell probably about six times before this visit Good Points :- very friendly staff, excellent food at dinner and breakfast. It is a fantastic building in an ideal spot.Bad points :It took almost an hour to get the internet working in our room, and without our persistence I think we would have been abandoned. We needed the internet to prepare for work the next day.Our room on the sixth floor although a double was very small, if the towel rail had been heated in the tiny bathroom we would have risked being burnt everytime we went to the sink.No safe to keep valuables although the hotel specifies there is one in every bedroom. The hotel had a scruffy appearance, there were discarded plastic cups in the corridors , empty cigarette packets on the steps. There should be a doorman around the entrance, if only to ask smokers and drinkers not to block it.
