Manageress gave up her car parking space which was very kind of her.
Great city especially if you love art & history. We stayed in the Best Western Hotel a nice hotel close to the city centre.
only negative comment was the noise, a lot of noise between 3-5am so not great when you have children, so that spoilt stay a bit. Room was very big but that was not a normal "twin" room so maybe we were lucky. Woul duse again tho and ask for a room not above the hotel entrance!
A good little hotel, much better than expected.
hotel excellent food excellent the only problem we had was we went for breakfast at 9 but waited 45minutes before being seated. hotel could really do with a bigger restaurant and there were other people waiting to be seated when we were eating. we were given tea and coffee whilst waiting. would recommend and use this hotel again
There were 10 of us and the rooms we were given were ideal. The staff were very helpful it was an easy walk to Princes Street and a taxi back (you might guess all females loads of shopping) was quite reasonable. We would go back.
Pleasant, friendly staff, nothing too much trouble.Good location.Would of liked a more varied menu for evening meals. The meals we did have were very good.
Could do with a larger bar and restaurant for guests wishing to dine in the hotel. All the less a lovely well recommended hotel
The map provided by the link is incorrect, hotel is 15 - 20 minute walk away from where it is shown, however the hotel itself is in the old maternity hospital which has been converted well to provide comfortable rooms. Having a large plasma screen over the dressing table rather than a mirror was a small disappointment. The staff are very friendly, but professional and attentive. The full Scottish Breakfast will set you up for the day. It is possible to explore the whole of Edinburgh on foot from this location providing you are fit and healthy, there are a lot of steep hills and steps around the city.
interior clean, fresh and nicely decorated, Staff friendly and helpful, very pleased with the room, which was a family room, spacious, clean and added bonus of adjoining room for children, the breakfast menu was plentiful and varied, although sometimes cooked breakfast was wrong/ missed items, evening meal was ok, but not great, on the 1 occassion we tried it.
My husband & I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to experience a lovely stay in Edinburgh city. We had nothing but excellent service while we stayed there overnight and will return to stay there on our next visit to Edinburgh, hopefully in the near future.
Would recommend and use again . Reasonable price for a hotel so near the city and centre and it had real character ( used to be the Old Maternity Hospital - there`s nothing like a bit of history).
Hotel was in wonderful location fro many sights - royal mile , castle, museum and university. Occasional noise from outside at night. Rooms perfectly sufficient and clean. However shame about the lightweight shower curtains that "chase" you round the bath as soon as the shower is turned on! Cant stand them!
The rooms were large, clean and nice but the room service and at breakfast was very poor, we had to ask for everything. We ordered 3 portions of sandwiches from room service the night before and couldn`t eat two of them because of the poor quality of the meat and soggy bread. Paid £158 per room for bed and breakfast and thought it was expensive for the poor service we received. You could get 20% off parking at a certain car park, this wasn`t detailed anywhere on the website so we had to move our car from where we had initially parked on the Princes Car park £4.50 for 1 hour!!). We would have been better staying at the Premier Lodge 2 minutes away. Wouldn`t recommend the hotel.
Lovely breakfast served by attentive staff. Delicious evening meals. Nice rooms, very clean. No complaints at all other than the noise from the street which is unavoidable in a busy city. Would reccommend and certainly stay there again myself.
Enjoyed our stay but as our room faced the main road there was noise from passing traffic.Would recommend that double glazing is fitted
The beds where most uncomfortable. No beer in the bar only LagerEvening meal was unsatisfactory, had to return the dessert as it was frozen solid?Poached Eggs at breakfast had egg shells in them.
Within fairly short walk of many of the events (there for Festival).
Not so keen on the quality of the breakfast, although the breakfast room staff were very attractive. Liked the biscuits in the room.
The hotel is ideally situated but this does not make up for the poor service we received. There are not enough tables for breakfast so breakfast time was very, very busy and the staff serving have little `go` about them. On the second morning they had ran out of some of the basic iteams - incl butter and haggis.
The only down side for me staying in this hotel was the price of the drink!I don`t mind paying a bit extra but the tarriffs for drink were extortionate!!!
staff very pleasent and helpful. room clean, breakfastgood.would recommend this hotel and would definitely use it again.usually stay in 4/5 star hotel but this was every bit as good.
booked into the restuarant - bar is very near to this and hotel had a very noisy group of guests who were very loud which spoiled the restuarant`s atmosphere and indeed the whole meal experience.
We had a lovely stay in Edainburgh, the hotel was great, very clean and the staff were very helpful. Would stay again.
Poor breakfast, standard not good enough for hotel price - e.g. Sunday, only scrambled egg available (therefore reconstituted) no brown bread until defrosted, no brown sauce.Sausages undercooked, sl.brown on one side only.
Perfect for a weekend break. Good location, helpful and friendly staff and reasonably priced hotel.
Room was rather small. Food good and reasonable. Staff excellent
I would definately recommend staying at The Best Western Edinburgh City Hotel. The room was excellent. The food in the restaraunt was 1st class and the staff were so friendly and helpful it made our trip most enjoyable and we would use this hotel again as it is also close to all the places we visited in Edinburgh.
Hotel good and cleanAll staff excellent and friendlyEvening dinner excellentOur shower-head needed some workWe enjoyed our stay
The Edinburgh City Hotel is a fairly small Hotel, you could even pass it as privately owned. It`s located in a lovely courtyard close to the centre of the City. But far enough not to be disturbed should you want quieter evenings. The staff are very helpful - even at 4am for a night-cap!! Would highly reccommend breakfast - it was delicious & brought to our room right on time. Will definitely stay again. Top marks to the staff!
