My sister and myself found all the staff welcoming and helpful. We found our rooms very comfortable and warm. On the whole we are more than satisfied. Thank you
generally rooms were clean and tidy overall, staff were quite willing to help and friendly.the noise was caused by outside traders during the early hours.
Pleasant hotel - although my standard double room was very small with a virtually non-existent window. Apart from that, the room was clean and pleasant, and the staff were friendly
Disappointed that the bar had no bitter beer ( they were waiting for it all week). View from the room (118 ) was poor. Otherwise ok
Very well positioned for transport and sightseeing. The shower was the best ever, shame there was no bath mat but overall a very good weekends stay.
very handy on the main road. u cant check in till 3pm, far 2 late , make 12 noon !
What a lovely hotel set in an old building in a very central location. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again and hope to sample the food next time too
We were disturbed one afternoonwhen someone entered our room with a duplicate key. After seeing that the rooom was occupied, the man made a hast retreat. Later that afternoon two regular employees checking electrical matters notiified us that they would be coming to our room to c heck, and did so. We are inclined to believe that the earlier intrusion was .from someone not connected with the hotel. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay both comfort and plesant manner of staff.
I have always booked into The Waverley and have been very please with the room but I would consider again as the bed was very hard and lumpy not the usual standard for the hotel in my experence I would say it has gone down in value and up in price
We spent two days in Edinburgh and the Old Waverley was perfect. It is ideally placed for sight seeing and shopping alike and is only 5 minute walk from the train station. The staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms were clean, we would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
Excellent service and food. The rooms are very comfortable. The staff are very helpful and attentive. The location is ideal for exploring as it is very central and is effortless to get to. I would definately stay there again and would recommend eating out for dinner in it`s restaurant. A very well done!!
Most areas have poor 3G/Wi-Fi reception. And, the furniture in the Cranston restaurant is pretty old and tired looking.
Breakfast - plenty of it but quality poor. Very convenient for the station good location but no hotel parking facilities to speak off - discounted NCP car park charges which were expensive. Difficult to get the luggage upstairs as there was no lift to take up the flight of staris. Room was spacious and comfortable with good views of the castle. Enjoyable stay in Edinburgh
Service very welcoming. Food at breakfast was good. Decor pleasant and accommodation clean, if beds a little uncomfortable. Fine views of the Castle etc from front bedrooms.
The rating would have been excellent if the staff had been more helpful. They on the whole (there were small exceptions) seemed unaware of their importance. Not as helpful as one would expect from a hotel like this and even neglectful. Maybe they need som stimulance from their employer?
Ideally situated for sightseeing, room was fine, could have wished for a better view though. bathroom very good {note - floor very slippy when stepping out of shower - no bath mat } breakfast excellent on choice, quality and service - no complaints at all. Reception staff friendly and helpful All in all a very pleasant stay
Room had no natural light. Prettend window. Breakfast uuninspired and repetitive.
The staff couldn`t be more helpful. You can leave your bags at their porter service before you check in that day and on the day you check out. Though we ate at another restaurant in the night, the breakfast at the hotel restaurant was good. Location is excellent, 2 minutes from Waverly train station. The only complaint was that the rooms were rather warm at night. All in all a lovely stay, one we would definately do again.
We found the hotel to be of a very good 3* standard, room of good size and well furnished. The breakfast was buffet style but excellent and the staff polite and very helpful.Recommend
I will certainly come again and recommend the hotel to friends and colleagues
Room was very clean and comfortable. Very convenient location from the rail station. Staff were friendly and helpful. Keep it up! Way to go!
Having stayed at the Old Waverley at least six times previously I was very dissapointed with my room this time around. The view out of my window was rusty iron steps at the back of the building. Everytime I flushed the loo the noise was horrific and took about 10 minutes to subside. So was the ventilation in the bathroom! I was concerned for my neighbouring guests especially in the middle of the night.
Beds and bedding very comfortable, facilities fine with plenty of drinks etc. but I suspect they`d save on their toilet paper bill by having a better quality! We`d visit again for the comfort , good breakfast and overall convenience of location. A hand with the luggage would have been appreciated...we were running late!
A good spot in the centre of the city - good quality room , fair price - I will go back
Stayed at the Old Waverley Hotel on our first trip to Edinburgh. Slightly nervous going to the unknown but a lovely suprise. Hotel clean and rooms very nice. Didnt eat in the hotel as we were room only and went out in the evenings of our stay - we are returning to Edinburgh in September and Im definately going to booking back in this hotel.
Very friendly staff. The hotel is conveniently situated for access to central Edinburgh. Ideally located for the genealogists/family historians needing to access to the General Register Office anf the Scottish Genealogy Society premises.
Real assets the staff, very welcoming, helpful with general enquiries, luggage etc. Lounge and bar facilities very comfortable offering stunning views of the castle Princes Street and Scotts monument. Meal in bar exceptionally tasty and welcome after long journey. Good value for money too. Only problem was entrance without lift to reception, but noted that we could have had help with the luggage, as we did on departure. Would recommend and return without hesitation.
WE COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER HOTEL OR ROOM AT THE PRICE WHICH WE PAID. THE LOCATION WAS SPOT ON AND THE STAFF REALY EXELLANT, THEY TOOK TIME OUT TO LISTEN TO YOUR TALK AND OFFER ADVICE ON EVERY THING . MUST BOOK FOR LONGER NEXT TIME AS WEEKEND NOT LONG ENOUGH TO ENJOY ALL THE SIGHTS AND THE COMFORT OF THE HOTEL. PS......MANY THANKS FOR THE SWIFT ACTION WHEN THE LIFT GOT STUCK.
We found the bed very hard and uncomfortable, the room was also quite small with just a hanging space. We also found the room airless and too hot, and the pipes from the room upstairs were in our room but boxed off so when the toilet or shower was run the water sounded as if it was in our room.
generally the hotel was very nice and the rooms were fine, however as a former hotel manager myself i do appreciate that the hotel is in the middle of a busy city centre but the noise levels on the lower levels coing from the street was quite disturbing, and the extremem noise coming from the water system whenever the toilet was flushed was quite unsettling and did keep us awake or wake us several times during the night, on the upside your staff were very helpful and the food was lovely
