Hotel ground-floor public rooms were very cold. I had to get a heater brought into the Studio room while waiting for a friend. The Octagon bar wasnt much better. Very limited menu in both. When checking out, I was "interrogated" by 2 people at Reception as to how and where I had spent my evening!! breakfast was good and staff attentive. My room was cold as the radiator was off and I had to send for help to turn it on-in one of the coldest weeks of the year!!! I won`t be back in a hurry to the Clarence. There are better (and cheaper) hotels in Dublin.
Staying for the second time and the Clarence met expectations for a £79 room, however if I was paying £110 or more would have gone to the Dylan - obvious missing items like bathrobes. Only had 1 face towels for 2 people, 3 coat hangers each, nobody to meet myself and pregnant fiancee at door to help with bags, all things that i`d expect for 5 star but for £79 perhaps that is what you pay for?
The Clarence came about for us after a web search for a Dublin Hotel, an adventure that turned into a very positive and satisfying experience. The facilities are comfortable, it would be lovely to have a jug and a cup in the room though to make a cup of tea/coffee in the middle of the night! Otherwise I can only make positive comment, the staff were courteous and helpful at all times, the quality of the rooms was excellent and the food was superb. I would definitely recommend the Clarence and certainly stay here on my next visit to Dublin.
This hotel is in a good location. The staff where very polite and helpful but I found it to be a little blank. The lounge is a bit like a waiting room. The restaurant was closed for suppers when we were staying there and our room was quite small and looked out onto the rear of a building only a few feet away across what looked like a loading bay. The TV was so quiet we had to get an engineer to come and tweek it louder and he appeared in only a couple of minutes and sorted the problem out so top marks there! Best points definitely location, cleanliness and staff.
We have just returned from Dublin after a wonderful stay at the Clarence. Well from the minute we stepped through the door the service was absolutely faultless. Our suite was beautiful. Very large and comfortable and we just didn`t want to leave and see Dublin. Could not fault it in anyway.
The Clarence is a really great hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. We had 2 rooms. We have 3 boys. In some hotels of this standard; there can be a snooty attitude. Not at the Clarence, Very very friendly. The rooms were very comfortable. The location in Temple Bar couldnt be better. We will visit Dublin again. We would only stay at the Clarence. A brilliant hotel !!
We stayed for one night and quite frankly that was enough. When you consider the price of the room you`d expect to have coffee/ tea facilities in your room.!! Our room faced the road running from Temple Bar and was very noisy until 4 am.The windows were closed of and this had no impact. Although i would say the location is superb but i think you could get much better value for money. We have stayed in hotels much better than this and for a fraction of the price.
Not the best i`d have to say and was overall pretty dissappointed especially considering how much we paid. The room had no iron/troser press(had to phone reception) it also had no menus for the restaraunt. And usually hotels have tea/coffee making facilities in the room but ours didnt and when asked was told i could order from room service(i.e id have to pay more)However we did eat a meal in the restaraunt and it was excellent I believe this hotel doesnt merit its 5 star status & i really wouldnt consider staying here again Staff are very friendly but to me this place is living on the reputation of its illustrious owners.
Good housekeeping standards, nice room, good breakfast- would recommed it highly to everyone I know. - We will be going back again.
Very pleased with this hotel it was a dream
Make sure you request a room with air conditioning if you require it, as initially we were given a room without. However they changed the room immediately.
Freindly and efficient. Great service in the resturant at breakfast
WE LOVED THE HOTEL,STAFF CAN`T BE FAULTED DIDN`T HAVE TO LIFT A FINGER SERVICE EXELLENT WILL STAY THIER AGAIN AND RECOMMEND TO ALL OUR FRIENDS
The room was very hot during the night and could not be altered even with the windows open. Also there were no tea making facilities in the room, which was disappointing for a hotel of this standard
It was our 10th Wedding Anniversary, and they gave us champagne on arrival - the accomadations was fantastic the breakfast and service was superb - oh and don`t forget the location right in the middle of Temple Bar - PERFECT
Lovely place to stay...... Staff were the best by far - will def stay again
Generally highly impressive. However, accents on the front desk caused a few problems and staff had minute difficulty communicating at times.
Hotel was fine, room was clean but for reasons i am not sure about, the central heating was on full bore all night in the middle of summer, it was like living in an oven. Fixed shower rose was faulty, and manual shower handle was also faulty. That aside, everything else in the room was fine. The room we were in 212, backed onto the temple bar, and believe me, if you are a light sleeper, give this side of the hotel a miss, the bars are on the go until 5am with noise to match. On the other hand, if you want all night parties every night, this is the place for you. Dublin is a great place to visit, and overall the Clarence is well worth staying in, i would certainly recommend it, so give it a go.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Pleasant stay. The Tea Room fanastic. Had superb meal. Rooms clean. We where updated to balcony room which was great
Rooms very comfortable. Food in Octogen Bar excellent & overall service was excellent.
I admit we are U2 fans & we wanted a luxury accomodation & were wiling to pay, what a huge dissapointment ,it is advertised as 5star & can not understand WHY.It Looked like a church, very cold & miserable,no pictures up,No telly in lounge,It was more like a office, food was nice ,staff were aswell, but the outlay, decor, room was very small, nothing deluxe about it.I would never return to this hotel,It was good location, but there was better 3 star hotels for less money & more luxurious than this one ,totally over-rated,the Travel lodge was more luxurious than this..BIG STYLE ..22 euros for the internet for 24 hrs .I pay less for a month back at home.DONT PAY ,there are plenty of internet cafes near buy,to pick up e-mail etc. What a rip off U2 want to be ashamed......
Our stay in the Clarence was briiliant, from the valet parking on arrival, which was excellent value, to the friendly, accomodating staff, nothing was too much bother from them, for anyone wanting to spoil themselves...........this is THE place to stay
The Clarence is simply the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Everything was perfect. I will definitely be returning, soon I hope!
The staff were exceptional in their attitude and overall attention to our needs. However, the hotel looked very tired and run down and our bedroom, although very clean, was at the back of the hotel and we didnt get much sleep becuase of noise from revellers and different traffic any night. Generally speaking we felt that we didnt get vlaue for money at all if you consider that we could have checked in to the luxurious Shelbourne for another 20 euros per night.
Stayed one noght at the Clarence. Very attentive staff. Nice rooms. great location. Superb breakfast. Highly recommended.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We took our ten month old son with us and facilities were great. Bottle warmer, steriliser and cot were in our room when we arrived. Room service collected his meals, heated and returned to us and provoded a high chair to use in our room. The room itself was small and had no air conditioning. It could have done with a new tub, as the enamel was wearing. We complained about this and asked to be moved. They offered us a smaller room with AC which we decided against. We were treated to a complimentary bottle of champagne which was a nice touch. Breakfast was excellent. Aside from the very friendly staff, the hotel felt more like a 4* and is overpriced, Great location though!
I have been to Dublin many times before and stayed in a range of hotels in different locations The Clarence is undoubtedly the best. The location is ideal whether you want the night life of Temple Bar, the shops in Graftion Street or north of the river or a stroll to Tinity College. It is also a stylish hotel. Quietly understated decor and furniture, very friendly and helpful staff and fantastic breakfasts! Already planning our next trip.
Room was small, bathroom small, no tea making faciities in room. I was expecting luxury. Definately have stayed in much better "lesser quailty" hotels. This hotel is over-rated. Very warm at night (we stayed mib-Feb) with no way of regulating heat other than opening window. On a plus side, the place was very clean and the staff very friendly and the rear entrance of the hotel exits on to the wonderful Temple Bar area!!
For a 5star it is only ok. The window was broken in our room and the air con could not be turned up. The corridor outside smelt of ciggarettes every morning and we could only think it was due to members of staff smoking nearby. We weren`t asked if we enjoyed our stay. We asked directions to a a fabulous french bistro in the centre, they didn`t know where it was, told us they would find out in time for our reservation the next night - when we came down they hadn`t found out any information which meant we had to wander around the streets of Dublin for 30mins trying to find the place! The rooms were nice though (but we paid for the extra space in the delux room). Overall, I would try another hotel in dublin before coming back here.
